Fatal Encounters does have illustrated violence, not gory but bloodstains and harsh language. -
Fatal Encounters is a 1 - 4 player game. So you can solo it, partner up or create an investigation task force.
I think murder mystery games are best for 2. Working with a partner makes it feel more authentic to real life for me. -
Throughout the game you can choose normal or hard difficulties. Additionally you have optional challenge to make the game harder if you choose to.
For example, during crime scene recreation you have events to sequence to find the out what happened at the crime scene. You must choose from normal and hard gameplay.
Normal: Events are written out

Well not that we are biased or anything but…
If you're looking for realism to an actual murder investigation, look no further. All of our puzzles are real investigation methods and because of this when your solving them they don’t take you are of the story. It simulates exactly how an investigation works, because the details of the case is where the answers lie.
We know these are true investigation methods because we used to be investigators, some of us still are! -
So the big difference for me between a murder mystery and an escape room is the story!
Escape rooms have a theme with a loose story based around it. You make concentrate on solving puzzles like code cracking, riddles etc based on that theme. Through the puzzles your collect numbers to open the lock to get out the room.
Murder mysteries are story driven games. They are about understanding the details of a case and putting them together to find evidence against the one of the suspects to link them to a murder. If you prefer getting invested in a story that you can use investigation techniques to put clues together, then murder mystery is what you want.
