GAME DESIGNER
I’m Kyle, and I designed Fatal Encounters artwork, stories, and puzzle mechanics.
In the UK, I used to be a crime investigator. Studying crime scenes and supporting authorities with investigational decisions. As well as some private work.
Five years ago, I moved to Brisbane, Australia, for a new life and couldn’t continue my career. So, to keep scratching my crime-solving itch, I combined investigation with two other things I love: board games and storytelling.
After three years of work, testing, and developing, Fatal Encounters is ready for the world!
WHY I MADE IT
Well, first, the thing I love about board / tabletop games is that they bring people together in person, not over a screen. To me, that’s when you really make memories! So, I wanted to put something out to the world that would do that.
I also saw that a lot of people who played these sorts of games wanted to feel like detectives when they played. So, I looked into why they didn’t feel like this. I saw that the games they played (although they have great stories) included puzzles that took you out of the illusion that you're solving a crime.
So, I thought I would use my knowledge and experience to write stories and play games where all the puzzles are real methods of investigation. That way, you never feel like you're solving a puzzle. Meaning in Fatal Encounters, you never break the immersion of solving a crime.
